چکیده

This paper presents a method for implementing off-grid boundary conditions (BCs) within Yee’s Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method, without disturbing the existing uniform mesh or changing the standard FDTD code. Both perfect electric conductor (PEC) and perfect magnetic conductor (PMC) walls are considered. The field values at off-grid virtual boundaries are obtained by extrapolation of adjacent field values. The method greatly enhances the flexibility of the FDTD method with respect to its ability to represent complex geometrical domains without reducing the spatial step.

FDTD Analysis of Top-Hat Monopole Antennas Loaded with Radially Layered Dielectric

Top-hat monopole antennas loaded with radially layered dielectric are analyzed using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Unlike the mode-matching method (MMM) (which was previously used for analyzing these antennas) the FDTD method enables us to study such structures accurately and easily. Using this method, results can be obtained in a wide frequency band by performing only one ti...

Efficient Modeling of Infinite Scatterers Using a Generalized Total-Field/Scattered-Field FDTD Boundary Partially Embedded Within PML

This paper proposes a novel generalized total-field/scattered-field (G-TF/SF) formulation for finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) to efficiently model an infinite material scatterer illuminated by an arbitrarily oriented plane wave within a compact FDTD grid. This requires the sourcing of numerical plane waves traveling into, or originating from, the perfectly matched layer (PML) absorber boun...

Accurate Modeling of Multilayer Packaging Structures with a Hybrid FDTD Method

This paper presents a method of coupling a static electromagnetic field solver with the finite-difference timedomain method for the more efficient modeling of multilayer packaging structures. Lossy metal characteristics are first simulated with a dense static grid and the resulting field correction factors are then used to enhance the accuracy of a much coarser FDTD mesh. Introduction Significa...

Divergent Fields, Charge, and Capacitance in FDTD Simulations

Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) grids are often described as being divergence-free in a source-free region of space. However, in the presence of a source, the continuity equation states that charges may be deposited in the grid, while Gauss’s law dictates that the fields must diverge from any deposited charge. The FDTD method will accurately predict the (diverging) fields associated with c...

PML - FDTD in Cylindrical and Spherical GridsF

| Perfectly Matched Layers (PML) are derived for cylindrical and spherical FDTD grids. The formulation relies on the complex coordinate stretching approach. 2D cylindrical and 3D spherical staggered-grid FDTD codes are written based on the time-domain versions of the equations. Numerical simulations validate the formulation by showing very good agreement between the PML-FDTD results and the fre...
